The University of Kentucky women’s golf team had a tough day on the course, shooting a 35-over par 323, to land in 19th placefollowing the opening day of competition at the Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, S.C. The Kats were led by sophomore RachelLester, who tallied a 7-over par 79 to tie for 59th place in the standings.
Auburn found itself atop the standings after posting a 3-over par 291 in opening day action, while it’s Celeste Troche held topindividual honors with a 4-under par 68 on the day.
Other UK golfers include sophomore Kelly Anders, who shot an 8-over par 80 to tie for 69th place and junior Kristen Pepe, whofinished the first round with a 9-over par 81 to tie for 76th place. Rounding out UK’s team roster were junior Towa Okiyama and seniorJenny Throgmorton, who each shot an 11-over par 83 to tie for 90th. Freshman Eva Gessner is competing in the event as an individualand shot a 12-over par 84 to tie for 100th place after the first round of competition.
The tournament, which is being played at the Furman University Golf Course, continues through Sunday.
