The University of Kentucky baseball team travels to Rock Hill, S.C., this weekend to take part in the Winthrop Tournament, Feb. 16-18, at Eagle Field.

UK (1-2) will play two games on Friday afternoon. The Wildcats face Appalachian St. at 12 p.m., and host school Winthrop at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, UK and Winthrop will tangle again at 3:30 p.m., before the Cats close out their tournament on Sunday against Appalachian St. at 12 p.m.

Appalachian St. (0-0) has yet to take the field in 2001. The Mountaineers posted a record of 17-38-1 last season, but return six starters and 14 letterwinners.

Winthrop (1-1) opened its season last weekend splitting two games with Mercer. The Golden Eagles were 15-15 during the 2000 season on their home field.

Scott Wade (0-0) 1.80 ERA, will start against Appalachian St. on Friday. In his first outing of the season last weekend, Wade scattered six hits in five innings of work, giving up only one earned run and did not figure in the decision.

Rob Corrado (0-0) 14.73 ERA, will take the mound against Winthrop in Friday’s second game. Corrado will look to improve on his first outing of the season in which he was roughed up, surrendering eight runs in 3.2 innings.
