University of Kentucky junior men’s soccer player Chris McAlpine added to hislong list of academic honors by being an honorable-mention selection to the NationalSoccer Coaches Association of America All-North Central Region Scholar Athleteteam.

McAlpine, a management major from Centerville, Ohio, has a number of academicawards to his credit. He has been named to the UK Athletic Director’s Honor Roll andthe Dean’s List four consecutive semesters, as well as the Southeastern Conference andMid-American Conference Honor Rolls the past two years. McAlpine is a member ofOmicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society and the UK Society ofCharacter.

On the field, McAlpine has made significant contributions in his three seasons withthe Cats. In 1999, he was named to the MAC All-Tournament Team after helping leadUK to its first MAC Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament berth. Thispast season, he started 13 of 20 games for the Cats, who won their first MACregular-season championship and repeated as MAC tourney champions. In the firstround of the NCAA tournament, UK upset No. 9 Saint Louis to move on to the Sweet16 for the first time in school history.
