Seventh-ranked Notre Dame (15-3) handed the 25th-ranked University of Kentucky womens tennis team its first home loss of theseason on Saturday, March 24, at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center. The Cats (9-6, 3-3 SEC) fought hard but lost by a score of 5-2.
Junior Carolina Mayorga notched a point for the Wildcats with her upset of fourth-ranked Michelle Dasso. Mayorga took the firstset before battling back after a second set loss to grab the victory and give Dasso, a two-time All-American, only her second loss of theseason.
Junior Lauren Rookledge also rolled to a win for the Cats with her 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Lindsey Green. The win was Rookledgeseighth in her last nine matches.
“I can definitely see that we are making progress,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “This is a much stronger Notre Dame team than itwas a year ago and we played them much tougher this season. Tomorrow is another big match for us. LSU is going to come in here andplay just as well as Notre Dame did. We will have to be ready.”
The Wildcats will be back in action Sunday, when they play host to the 24th-ranked LSU Tigers. The pivotal SoutheasternConference match will begin at 11 a.m. in the Boone Tennis Center.
