Women's Tennis

The 22nd-ranked University of Kentucky women’s tennis team was defeated 4-3 by 23rd-ranked South Carolinaon Sunday, April 1, on the USC campus. The loss drops the Wildcats to 10-8 and 4-5 in the SoutheasternConference, while the Gamecocks are lifted to 12-5 and 6-2 in the SEC.

UK lost the first point of the match by dropping two of three doubles matches. The duo of senior BrookeSkeen and junior Lauren Rookledge, the nation’s 25th-ranked team, rolled past 36th-ranked Jennifer Radmanand Kathy Boyanovich to grab the only doubles win for the Cats.

In singles action, the Wildcats could only take three of six matches to end the contest in favor of SouthCarolina by a count of 4-3. Rookledge, Skeen and sophomore Sarah Witten all racked up victories. Wittendefeated her second ranked opponent in as many matches with her win over 96th-ranked Katarina Markovski.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday, April 7, when the Auburn Tigers travel north to Lexington tobattle the Cats at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex. The match is slated to begin at noon. Admission is free.
