AUSTIN, Texas (Apr. 6, 2001) — With six top-five finishes, the University of Kentucky track and field team gave an impressive performance during day two of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Friday, April 6, at the Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field.
Sophomore Simidele Adeagdo and senior Shevan Threats both topped their best marks this season and gave outstandingperformances in the womens long jump with NCAA provisional marks. Adeagdo gave UK its top finisher of the day by placing firstwith a mark of 20-10.50. Threats topped her previous best of 19-04.00 with a 20-04.25 and third place finish in todays event.
Freshman sensation Jeff Chakouian gave the top finish for the mens side and also beat his top mark of the season in the discusevent. Chakouian finished second with a throw of 174-10.00 beating his previous best of 171-09.00, which was just set in his lastcompetition. Junior Bill Powers also showed his strength with a throw of 165-09.00 and a fifth place finish.
In the mens 1,500 meter event, Justin Amason finished third with a time of 3:56.20. Fellow Wildcat, Jack Morgan, ran a newseason best of 3:57.52 in todays event and placed sixth.
The distance medley relay team of sophomores Chad Johnson, Hunter Spencer and Thomas Morgan, and freshman David Freeman gave a strong finish at fourth in a time of 9:56.85.
Competition for the Track Cats will continue tomorrow beginning with the mens high jump event at 11:00 a.m.
