The University Club of Kentucky will recognize former University of Kentucky Athletic Director C.M. Newton during its Clubhouse Grand Opening weekend on June 8th and 9th. On Friday night, Newton will be the inaugural induction into the Club’s Wall of Fame and presented with a plaque on behalf of the membership. The dedication will pay tribute to Newton’s career, which has spanned six decades and included a 12-year stint as the University of Kentucky Athletic Director. The festivities, which will begin at 5:00pm, will include invited guests from the University’s athletic and administrative offices.
The University Club, which will be the new home for the University of Kentucky’s men’s and women’s golf teams, will host the weekend’s events in its newly unveiled, fully renovated clubhouse. This invitation-only celebration will include recognition of the Club’s Legacy members, Board of Governors, and cocktails in the facility that promises to be decorated with UK, memorabilia.
The festivities continue into Saturday with a golf tournament, luau, and special guest performance by country music recording star John Michael Montgomery. The Kentucky native will perform an acoustic set for the members and their invited guests. The tournament will begin at 10:30am and will include an awards ceremony. Montgomery’s performance will follow the luau at 7:30pm.
The Club currently has one 18-hole golf course, renamed Big Blue, under construction, and an additional 18-hole course known as Wildcat, open for play to members. During the two-day Grand Opening, University Club staff members will provide tours of Big Blue. Arthur Hills and Associates are heading the construction of Big Blue. Hill is responsible for some of the finest golf course construction and renovations around the world, including Oakmont Country Club, Oakmont, PA and Inverness, Toledo, OH. In addition, Hills is responsible for the design and development of Champion Trace in Nicholasville, KY and Persimmon Ridge in Louisville, KY.
The University Club of Kentucky is a member of the University Clubs of America (UCA) family. The Club offers reciprocal privileges to its members at each of the UCA facilities, which includes the University Club of South Carolina, Auburn University Club, Capstone Club in Tuscaloosa, AL and the Cardinal Club in Louisville.
