Ledford to be Remembered at Game on Saturday: There will be a tribute to the late Cawood Ledford during pregame activities at the Ball State game on Saturday.
Following the national anthem, there will be a moment of silence in Ledford’s honor. The playing of “My Old Kentucky Home” will be dedicated to Ledford and his family with a special tribute on the DiamondVision video boards.
One seat will be left empty in the press box and marked, “In Honor of Cawood Ledford.”
Ledford who called Kentucky football and men’s basketball games from 1953-92, died on Wednesday.
Tickets Available for Ball State: Tickets are available for Saturday’s game against Ball State. Tickets cost $22 each and may be purchased at the UK Ticket Office at Memorial Coliseum from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. Tickets may be purchased over the phone with a Visa or MasterCard by calling 859-257-1818 or 800-928-CATS. 1995 UK-Tennessee Game on FSNS: A retrospective on the 1995 Tennessee at Kentucky football game can be seen Friday, Sept. 7, at 9 p.m. on Fox Sports Net South.
Led by Peyton Manning, who threw two touchdown passes and ran for one TD, Tennessee won the game, 34-31. The game is memorable for Kentucky fans, however, for the performances of running back Moe Williams and quarterback Billy Jack Haskins.
Williams ran for 151 yards and three touchdowns. Haskins, playing with a separated left shoulder, put Kentucky ahead in the fourth quarter with a 47-yard touchdown run that was later named “The Most Inspirational Play of the Year in College Football” by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, with the Wildcats trailing 27-24, Haskins ran right on an option play. He broke several tackles including a crunching hit on his ailing shoulder and received some critical blocks before breaking into the clear for the go-ahead touchdown.
On the next series, Manning drove the Volunteers for what proved to be the game-winning touchdown. The injured Haskins was unable to return to the game and the Vols held on for the victory.
Last Weekend’s Wildcat Madness a Success, Will be on Display Again This Week: The 144 pieces of Wildcat art that comprise Wildcat Madness drew excellent attendance at the Nutter Field House last week, prompting a repeat showing this week.
Wildcat Madness will be on display on Friday from 5-9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Admission is $2 per person at the Nutter Field House, located next to Commonwealth Stadium.
“Public demand will keep the display active again this week,” said Van Florence, director of the UK Basketball Museum, which is promoting the event. “We had 4,000 to 5,000 fans come through the door last weekend because they loved the idea that all the Cats can be viewed at one stop.”
