No. 15 KENTUCKY STAYS UNDEFEATED WITH WIN OVER UTAH

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior midfielder Susie Ledzianowski recorded her fourth goal of the season and third in as many games as No. 15 Kentucky (6-0-0/1-0-0 Southeastern Conference) defeated Utah (2-2-0/ 0-0-0 Mountain West Conference), 3-0, at the UK Soccer Complex on Friday, Sept. 21. Senior Beth Wells earned her third shutout of the season and the 17th of her career, stopping seven Utah shots on goal.

“I’m pleased with the aggressiveness and tenacity our athletes showed on the field tonight, ” UK Coach Warren Lipka said. “Utah is a very disciplined and experienced team and we knew that we had to play hard all 90 minutes to win – we got the effort we were aiming for tonight.”

The Wildcats lit the scoreboard first as Ledzianowski dented the Utah net off passes from sophomore Amber Wilson and freshman Danielle Slupski. It was Slupski’s first career assist and point as a Wildcat. Twenty-one minutes later, All-SEC forward Keri Boyce scored her second goal of the 2001 campaign as she drove to the net and put the ball past Utah goalie Courtney Hills. Sophomore Kara McCue assisted Boyce’s goal, her second assist of the season.

Rounding out the Wildcat scoring, freshman Jamie Hutchison netted her first career goal at the 43:19 mark by sending it past Hills. Setting up the Wildcat score, senior Kate Qually fed fellow senior Melinda Buemi in front of the net and Buemi’s shot ricocheted off the cross bar allowing Hutchison to slip it over the line.

“It was all about being in the right place at the right time,” Hutchison said. “Melinda (Buemi) was battling in there with me and we were pressuring them right in front of their net. Utah is a fundamentally-sound and experienced team but we executed from start to finish and showed we were eager to get this one.”

UK, currently ranked No. 15 nationally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Coaches Poll, will conclude the weekend slate by welcoming Ohio State to the UK Soccer Complex on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.
