– The University of Kentucky men’s tennis team advanced to the second round of the University of Louisville Invitational on Friday, Oct. 5, at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville, Ky.
Rahim Esmail, seeded fourth, defeated Hyes Hassib of IUPU-Fort Wayne in two sets, 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the second round. Gustav Pousette also won his match in two sets against UT-Martin’s Marten Tamala. Pousette is currently seeded first among the players in the tournament. After a first set win over Scott Hayden of Wright State, Elliott Datlow surrendered in the final two sets, 3-6,2-6.
The second round of the invitational begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and is followed by the quarterfinal round in the afternoon.
The All-American pre-qualifiers at the Lincoln Tennis Center in Stone Mountain, Ga. were delayed in both singles and doubles action today due to rain. Action is scheduled to resume at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
