LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team will take a break from Southeastern Conference play on Monday, Oct. 8, to play host to the Evansville Purple Aces. Action gets underway at 7 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum.

This marks the first meeting in UK’s 25-year history with the Purple Aces. UK enters the match with a 7-6 record after a 3-1 loss to No. 17 South Carolina on Friday, Oct. 5. Kentucky took the first game from the Gamecocks before dropping the next three and the match, 4-1. The Wildcats have looked to several players for leadership this season, including junior Kristen Batt, who is averaging 4.12 kills per game while hitting .256.

Evansville has struggled during the first half of the season, holding a 4-13 record entering Monday night’s matchup. The Purple Aces had a tough weekend, dropping two home Missouri Valley Conference matches. Creighton swept UE, 3-0, on Friday, before the Aces dropped a five-game match to Drake on Saturday. The match came down to a fifth game 16-14 tiebreak score.

The two teams have never met on the volleyball court, though Evansville coach Mark Hardaway holds an 0-1 record against the Cats, dating back to his coaching days at Western Kentucky (1993-94).
