Antti Peltonen, a junior on the University of Kentucky men’s soccer team, finished regular-season play in the Mid-American Conference the same way he began by being named conference Player of the Week and earning a place on the Soccer America Team of the Week for the second time this season for the week of Nov. 5. This is the fourth player of the week honor given to a UK player this season and the second in a row.
“Antti is having a great season,” Coach Ian Collins said. “He is definitely one of the top players in the MAC and continues to show that game after game.”
Peltonen, a native of Kokkola, Finland, tallied a goal and an assist on the game-winner in UK’s 2-1 victory over Akron on Saturday. The victory clinched the Cats’ first perfect season in MAC play and second consecutive MAC regular-season title.
Tied for second on the team with 13 points, Peltonen is tied for the team lead with five assists and third with four goals, all of which came in MAC play.
The honors match those from the week of Sept. 25 when Peltonen helped lead Kentucky to a 2-0-0 start in the MAC with wins over Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. That weekend, he scored three goals and one assist.
Peltonen helps lead the Cats into the MAC Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 11 when they face the winner of the Bowling Green and Buffalo matchup. Action is slated for noon at Lee Jackson Field on the campus of the University of Akron.
