Louisville Doubleheader Notes in PDF Format

Bragging rights will be on the line on Wednesday, April 10 as the Commonwealth’s two largest universities collide when Kentucky plays host to Bluegrass rival Louisville in a twi-night softball doubleheader at the UK Softball Complex starting at 5 p.m. EDT.

The Wildcats (18-19, 3-9 Southeastern Conference), the second-best hitting team in the SEC with a .307 batting average, are coming off of a 2-1 series victory over Mississippi State this past weekend in Lexington. UK is 7-3 over its last 10 non-conference games including a 16-3, five-inning win over Akron in the Wildcats last non-SEC contest. Junior Morgan Marr heads the Wildcats pitching staff with a 2.35 ERA in 50.2 innings of work. Junior Lyndsey Angus has been the main cog to the offensive machine over UK’s last 10 contests, carrying a .500 batting average with five doubles, a home run, six runs scored and 13 RBI.

Louisville (19-19, 6-4 Conference USA) enters the contest having lost its last two to Southern Mississippi. The Cardinals are sporting the current C-USA Player of the Week in Keola Calderon. The junior posted one double, five RBI and four runs scored as U of L went 2-2 over the past week. Junior Jessica Rak (17-9) enters as the Cardinals top hurler with a 1.37 ERA in 163.2 innings of work while junior Melissa Jacobo leads the Cardinals hitting attack with a .352 batting average to go along with 29 RBI and 22 walks.

The Cats and Cards have squared off seven times on the softball diamond with the Wildcats holding a 5-2 advantage in the series. However, both of U of L’s wins have been in Lexington, including a 10-1 clobbering of the Cats during the 2001 UK Invitational Tournament.
