LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – University of Kentucky golfer John Holmes recorded an even-par 72 in the final round of the NCAA Central Region Golf Tournament to finish in a tie for ninth place on Saturday, May 18 at the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock, Ark.

Starting the final round on the back nine, Holmes tallied two birdies but finished his first nine holes after a double bogey on 16 to head to the front nine at 1-over par. The freshman from Campbellsville, Ky., got off to a sluggish start on hole one with a bogey but regrouped and completed the round with an even-par 72. His 215 total for the tournament was 1-under par.

Unfortunately, Holmes’ season came to an end. Only the top two individual finishers whose teams do not qualify for the NCAA Championships earn a berth to nationals. Holmes finished fifth among those individual golfers, just two strokes from qualifying.
