Palo Alto, Calif. – The opening round of the 2002 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships were postponed on Monday, May 20 due to steady rains in Palo Alto, Calif. The Championships were rescheduled to begin on Tuesday on the campus of Stanford University.
Senior Carolina Mayorga and junior Sarah Witten were the only two members of the Wildcat squad to receive bids to the individual competitions. Mayorga and Witten will both compete in the singles tournament and then team up to participate in the Doubles Championships.
Mayorga, a Bogot?, Colombia native, and Witten, hailing from Naples, Fla., are considered a favorite to win the doubles title. The tandem is seeded fourth in the tournament and, along with the lofty seed, automatically earn All-America honors for the second-straight year.
