The UK women’s tennis team will travel to Nashville this weekend to compete in the June Stewart Fall Tournament hosted by Vanderbilt.
Among the teams in the tournament will be Purdue, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Marshall, Clemson and Vandy.
“This is a big tournament for us,” UK Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “It’s a strong regional field with many of the nation’s top ranked players competing.”
The Cats have gotten some good individual play this season. Freshman Nathalie Roels has played extremely well posting a 7-3 record, including her win in the finals of the Florida State Lady Seminole Classic last month. Senior Sarah Witten, No. 39 in the country, is 3-2 entering the weekend and figures to play well in Nashville.
In doubles, Roels and Witten, who are ranked No. 22 as a team, made an impressive run in last week’s ITA/Riviera All-American Tournament, beating two top-10 teams before falling in the second round of the main draw. Senior Jill Buckley and sophomore Danielle Petrisko will pair up for the first time this year.
Play will begin on Friday and conclude on Sunday.
