Lexington, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming teams stand in fifth andsixth-place, respectively, at the Nike Cup Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., with one dayremaining in the competition. The UK men have scored 253 points through the first twodays while the women have tallied 176.
Freshman Steven Manley continued to swim well for the men today, Fri., Nov. 22, as hewon the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:37.91. Junior Joey Faltraco took home asecond-place finish in the 400 IM, finishing in 3:52.49. Both those times are good enoughfor NCAA “B” cuts. The 800 freestyle relay team finished in fourth-place and the 200medley relay team captured a fifth-place finish for the Cats.
A freshman highlighted day two of the event for the UK women, also, as JoannaChetcuti-McLean swam a “B” cut time (56.61) in taking third-place in the 100 backstroke.Sophomore Chrissy Miller gave a strong performance for the second consecutive day asshe swam a “B” cut time and won the “B” final of the 200 freestyle. Her 1:49.62 was thefifth-best time overall in the event. The swimming teams will conclude the Nike Cupcompetition on Saturday, Nov. 21, as they look to move up in the final standings.
Meanwhile, the Kentucky diving teams gave a good showing in the first day of the IndianaInvitational. Senior All-American Clayton Moss finished third on the three-meterspringboard with a score of 528.60. Freshman Jessica Thompson scored a 271.80 as shefinished in third-place on the one-meter board. The diving teams will be back in action onSaturday, Nov. 23, in the second day of the three-day event.
