Milwuakee, Wis. – Kentucky senior Jill Buckley began the spring tennis season in stellar fashion on Tuesday with a straight-sets win over Butler’s Alaina Griffin at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.

Buckley, seeded sixth for the tournament, did not lose a game as she pounded the unseeded Griffin, 6-0,6-0, to advance to the round of 16. She will face Cincinnati’s Khushchehr Italia on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Italia reached the quarters after defeating Purdue’s Gretchen Haynor in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.

In other action, senior Leigh Bradwell was defeated by Murray State’s Jaclyn Leeper. After taking the first set 6-2, Bradwell was unable to maintain her momentum and dropped the next two sets 6-4 and 6-3. Bradwell will play in the consolation bracket on Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, Buckley and Bradwell will team up to take on Illinois State’s Shelby Lipson and Ashley Maxwell in the second round of doubles. Buckley and Bradwell are seeded second in the doubles bracket and received a bye into the round of 16. They will face Lipson and Maxwell at 11:30 a.m.
