LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky track & field squads wrapped up competition in the Kentucky Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky. The Wildcats claimed six event titles on the final day of the meet, which got underway on Friday.
In field events, Jeff Chakouian took the men’s shot put title, while sophomore Gennessa Guzman claimed first in the women’s shot put. Senior Simidele Adeagbo continued her successful weekend by claming the women’s long jump title and third place in the women’s 60 meters. Adeagbo automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the triple jump on Friday evening.
Junior Ernest Simms finished second in the men’s 60 meters with a provisional qualifying mark of 6.72. Kentucky dominated the men’s mile, taking the top five spots. Hunter Spencer led the way with his provisional qualifying time of 4:02.34. Thomas Morgan was second, freshman Kris Landers finished third, while Justin Amason and Jean Balan wrapped up the top five.
In the women’s mile, Beth Heimann finished first with a time of 5:00.75. Roseline Addo, running unattached, took second. UK’s Caitlin Phillips was fourth in the event, while Allison Grace finished fifth. Chad Johnson finished sixth in the men’s 400 meters.
In the 800 meters, James Doaty claimed third place for the men with a time of 1:52.86, while Brooke Patterson was second for the women with 2:12.92 mark. Freshman Talonda Ingram took home second place in the women’s 200 meters with a time of 24.83. Junior Elmetta Johnson was first in the women’s 60-meter hurdles, while teammate Olubusola Adeagbo was second.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, Jan. 25 when they play host to the SEC Challenge at the Nutter Field House.
