Lexington, Ky. – Area youngsters will have an opportunity to experience the college game-day atmosphere when the Kentucky women’s basketball team plays host to NCAA basketballs’ annual Take A Kid The Game (TAKG) program on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003. Kids, ages 18 and younger, will receive a free ticket to watch the Wildcats take on No. 16 South Carolina in Memorial Coliseum at 2 p.m. ET. UK students and employees with valid faculty/staff identification will be also be admitted free. All other adults are only $2.

Kentucky is one of more than 300 institutions across the nation that are participating in this campaign focused on attracting the nation’s youth to college games. The Take a Kid to the Game program is entering its eighth year in promotion of NCAA athletics.

“Women’s basketball games are so exciting and competitive at Kentucky and we invite everyone to come out and take advantage of the ‘Take A Kid To The Game’ day on Sunday,” UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said.

In addition to free admission, kids can take place in interactive activities on the concourse in Memorial Coliseum starting at 1 p.m. ET. The entire UK women’s basketball team will be available to sign autographs and kids of all ages can have their picture made with Scratch and the Wildcat, the official mascots of UK athletics. The first 250 kids also will receive a full-size UK basketball.

“We are very excited to be participating in the NCAA ‘Take A Kid to the Game’ initiative,” UK athletics director Mitch Barnhart said. “Our wish is that all of the young kids in our area will have the opportunity to experience the one-of-a-kind atmosphere that is women’s NCAA basketball.”
