Complete Team and Individual Standings

MANHATTAN, KAN. – The temperature fell at Colbert Hills Golf Course and the scores went up. The University of Kentucky men’s golf team fell from third to eighth place on day two of the 2003 NCAA Central Regional Tournament on Friday. After shooting a 280 on Thursday, the second lowest score of the year, the Wildcats battled wind and rain in Manhattan and turned in a 13-over 301 and slipped in the standings.

Sophomores John Holmes and Brandon Waldrop showed the most consistency in their scores from day one, putting in one-over-par 73s. Freshman Matt Kohn, who shot a 67 on Thursday, struggled on the back nine and posted a 79. Sophomore Mark Blakefield was in good shape heading into the final three holes, but two bogeys and a triple bogey sent him into the clubhouse with a seven-over 79. Senior Ryan Coyne came in with a four-over 76.

The bad weather wreaked havoc on everyone as 26 of the 27 teams posted over-par scores. Illinois held on to the top spot while North Carolina State and Oklahoma State moved into second and third, respectively. Wichita State jumped from 17th to fourth with the only sub-par team score of the day, a one-under 287.

The Wildcats will conclude the tournament with one more round on Saturday. They need to maintain a spot in the top ten to advance to the NCAA Finals taking place in Stillwater, Okla., May 27-30.

As one of the top 15 teams, UK will have one of the morning tee-off times. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
