The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team (2-4-1) hopes to end its offensive woes Sunday when the Cats travel to Tempe, Ariz. for a mid-day tilt against 18th-ranked Arizona State (4-1-1). The opening kick is set for 11 a.m. MST at ASU Soccer Stadium.

With the Cats’ 1-0 loss Friday evening at Arizona, Kentucky has gone scoreless in its last 162 minutes of play, which bodes well for the Sun Devils given the strength of the ASU defense. Arizona State features one of the best defenders collegiate soccer has to offer in Amy LePeilbet, who played on the same U.S. Under-21 Women’s National Team co-coached by UK Coach Warren Lipka. LePeilbet’s versatility bolsters the Sun Devil attack, as she contributed two goals in five matches going into Friday night’s match against San Francisco. Kentucky and Arizona State have one common opponent on the young season. ASU defeated Rutgers, 1-0 on Sept. 7, while Kentucky dropped a 2-1 decision to the Scarlet Knights on Sept. 13.

Kentucky enters Sunday’s match having dropped three consecutive matches and four of its last five. The Cats have scored only two goals in their four season losses. UK last dropped three straight in mid-October of 2002 when Kentucky scored one goal collectively against Georgia, Tennessee and Ole Miss. However, the last three Kentucky teams to lose three consecutive matches (1998, 2001, 2002) advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
