Seattle, Wash. – Kentucky (4-2-1) suffered its first road loss of the season to the No. 22 Washington Huskies (5-0-1), 2-1, in its first game of the 2003 Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash.
The score was tied 0-0 at halftime and the Huskies held a slight 6-3 shot advantage.
Washington got on the board first when sophomore Jeff Hoover fired a shot into the lower right-hand corner of the goal from 20 yards out 49 minutes into the game. The Huskies added another goal in the 63rd minute when junior C.J. Klaas scored an unassisted goal from 25 yards out.
The Cats refused to quit and fought hard until the last minute of the game. UK found the back of the net with 40 seconds remaining in the game when Jamal Shteiwi sent a corner kick into the box that found junior Olli Lehtimaki for the score.
Kentucky plays its second game of the Husky Classic Sunday when it faces Portland at 11 a.m. PDT. The Pilots defeated No. 11 South Carolina, 2-0, in its first match of the tournament.
