UK’s Tigran Martirosyan improved to 9-1 in singles play Saturday with his third victory in two days at the 2003 ITA All-American Pre-Qualies event in Chattanooga, Tenn. Martirosyan recorded an easy 6-1, 6-2 victory over Patrick Thompson of Ball State to advance to Sunday’s round of 32 against North Carolina’s Andy Metzler. Martirosyan has won nine-consecutive matches after losing his Wildcat debut against No. 53 Paco Antelo of South Florida.

Kentucky’s Nate Emge also advanced to the round of 32 after overcoming a horrible start against Robbye Poole of Clemson. After dropping the first set, 6-0, Emge surrendered nothing more, taking the next two sets by 6-0 counts. Sunday, Emge faces Georgia State’s Jaime Rodriguez.
