The University of Kentucky swimming & diving teams hit the road this weekend for what figures to be three days of challenging competition. The UK swimming teams begin competition in the Nike Cup Thursday in Chapel Hill, N.C., while the UK divers open their weekend Friday at the 10-team Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. The Nike Cup kicks off at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. EST Thursday through Saturday, while the Indiana Invitational diving events start at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST, Friday through Sunday.
At the 2002 Nike Cup, sophomore Steven Manley placed first in the 200y-freestyle event, helping the UK men to a fourth-place finish. Sophomores Joanna McLean and Shantel Commander took third place in the 100y backstroke and 200y-breaststroke events, respectively, carrying the UK women to a sixth-place showing. This time around, the UK men enter the Nike Cup with the No. 21 slot in the latest CSCAA national rankings.
This weekend?s events mark the Cats? first meets since the UK men defeated Louisville and the UK women knocked off Houston and Louisville on Friday, Oct. 31 in Lexington.
