In the battle of the Wildcats, UK plays host to the Northwestern Wildcats in the second of three straight homes

Just one day removed from a 79-59 win over IPFW in its season opener, the Kentucky women’s basketball team will play host to Big 10 opponent Northwestern on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for senior citizens and children ages 18 and under. UK faculty and staff are admitted free with a valid ID.

“Each game is going to get tougher,” UK Coach Mickie DeMoss said. “(Northwestern) comes in from the Big Ten and they are going to be physical and ready to play. I think playing these games close together will tell me how mentally sharp we are. I want to see how we can turn around and adjust to different styles of play because Northwestern has their own style and we need to see how quickly we can adjust to that. Now, it is more mental than it is physical. Endurance-wise we’ll see where we are as well.”

Northwestern, located in Evanston, Ill., is coached by former Auburn assistant June Olkowski. She has posted a 24-88 record in four seasons at NU. Last season the Wildcats finished 8-20 overall, 3-13 in the Big Ten and were led by All-Big Ten honorable mention selection Sarah Kwasinski. The junior center led the team in scoring last season, averaging 12.0 points per game and led the Cats over Creighton with 16 points in their season opener on Friday.

Senior center SeSe Helm was the leading offensive threat for UK vs. IPFW. She posted her ninth career double-double with a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Junior swing player Sara Potts and sophomore guard Jenny Pfeiffer followed with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Kentucky is 0-1 vs. Northwestern in the all-time series. UK fell to the Wildcats 78-42 on Dec. 2, 1995 in the championship game of NU’s Roger L. White Invitational.
