The Kentucky track & field teams will open the 2004 indoor season by hosting the Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 16-17 at the Nutter Fieldhouse in Lexington, Ky. The meet begins on Friday evening with six events and continues throughout the day on Saturday.
The Cats will compete against Southeastern Conference foes Vanderbilt, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina, as well as intrastate rival Eastern Kentucky in the two-day event. The competition gets underway at 6 p.m. on Friday with the pole vault, high jump and weight throw and concludes that evening with the 4 x 800-meter relay at 7:45 p.m. Action will resume Saturday with the high jump at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Kentucky is looking to build upon a successful 2003 season that saw 11 student-athletes garner All-American honors, including eight returnees in 2004.
