The University of Kentucky men?s and women?s swimming & diving squads bid farewell to six seniors in style Saturday, as the Cats swept Cincinnati on Senior Day at UK?s Lancaster Aquatic Center. The UK women tallied a 153-124 win while the 22nd-ranked UK men turned in a strong 159-103 showing.
Competing in their final UK home meets were swimmers Fernando Barros, Darren Berquist, Amanda Bourgeois, Eddie Clement, Shawna Sechrist and Kendra Trahan. Bourgeois turned in a solid final home meet, taking first in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events. Junior Jerram Chudleigh, sophomores Brennan Moore, Laura Graham and Steven Manley, along with freshman Alejandro Bravo took two events apiece. Chudleigh earned victories in the 200-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle events. Moore claimed the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events while Graham won the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events. Manley once again displayed his versatility, capturing the 100-yard breaststroke and 1000-yard freestyle events. The freshman Bravo turned in victories in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events.
Also claiming individual-event victories Saturday were junior Caitlin Muldoon (1000 freestyle), freshman Nikia Deveaux (50 free), junior Jerram Chudleigh (200 butterfly), junior Tim Patrick (50 freestyle), sophomore Daniel Farnham (100 freestyle) and sophomore Dane Redinger (200 breaststroke).
UK sophomore Jessica Thompson and freshmen Jillian Becker and Joey Brown took first, second and third, respectively, in the one and three-meter diving events.
The UK men?s and women?s squads each earned victories in the 200-yard medley relay events.
The Cats now will prepare for the SEC Championships to be held at the end of the month in Athens, Ga. In the meantime, several Cats will participate in next weekend?s Senior Nationals in Orlando, Fla.
