The Kentucky softball team will open their 2004 home slate on Feb. 28-29, when they play host to the Kentucky Spring Invitational at the UK Softball Complex. The Cats will face Youngstown State, Ball State and Northern Iowa in the two-day tournament.

The Cats are off to their best start in school history with a 7-3-1 record this season. UK went 2-2-1 two weeks ago at the Texas-San Antonio Tournament, recording victories over North Texas and Missouri-Kansas City. The squad is led by Amy Kendall, who is hitting .520 with two runs and seven RBIs. Freshman Katie Campbell has also knocked in seven base runners with three home runs on the year, one of them being a grand slam. Kendall currently ranks third in the conference in batting average.

The Cats open tournament play at 4:30 p.m. Saturday vs. Youngstown State, followed by a contest with Northern Iowa at 6:30. UK takes on Ball State Sunday at 1:00 p.m., and the consolation and championship games will be held at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m., respectively.
