Junior Aibika Kalsarieva earned a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 1 singles to push No. 21 Kentucky past No. 30 Ole Miss by a 4-3 count Sunday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center in Oxford, Miss. The Cats complete a weekend conference sweep to move to 10-5 and 2-0 in conference play.
After the Cats suffered a loss at No. 3 doubles, Kalsarieva and freshman Lara Maurer put Kentucky in doubles contention with an 8-4 win at No. 2 over Audra Adams and Sabrina Peppl. The Rebels would go on to clinch the doubles point with a tiebreaker win at number one.
The Cats? deficit grew when freshman Liis Sober fell at No. 5 to Florencia Basile, 6-3, 6-0. Freshman Joelle Schwenk began the Kentucky comeback with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 over Peppl. Freshman Christine Simpson evened the tally at two with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 over Adams. Freshman Sarah Foster put the Cats on top with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 4 before Ole Miss rallied to tie the match at No. 2 singles.
After claiming a 6-4 first-set win at No. 1, Kalsarieva dropped the second-set tiebreaker before rebounding with a 6-3 third-set showing to clinch the Kentucky victory.
