LEXINGTON, Ky. – UK Coach Dennis Emery became the first Kentucky tennis coach to surpass 400 wins, as the Cats claimed shutout victories Wednesday over Wright State and Eastern Kentucky at UK?s Boone Tennis Complex.
Kentucky claimed a 5-0 victory over Wright State in the first half of the doubleheader in less than 90 minutes. The Cats earned straight-set wins in each match, blanking the Raiders in seven of the 10 sets played at the blustery Boone outdoor courts.
The Cats moved indoors for their evening match against Eastern Kentucky and dispatched the Colonels with ease. Junior Tigran Martirosyan earned his ninth-consecutive victory in the nightcap.
?I?m thrilled to reach 400 wins at Kentucky, but I was more concerned about building momentum today for our matches this weekend at Georgia and Tennessee,? Emery said. ?Our guys sustained their intensity throughout the day, and hopefully, we?ll be able to use these matches to our benefit this weekend.?
Emery?s record now stands at 401-247 in his 22 seasons at Kentucky. Emery spent five seasons at Austin Peay before coming to Lexington and has an overall record of 488-313.
