Phillips Named Perimeter Game Coordinator: Joker Phillips, UK?s wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, has added the duties of perimeter game coordinator, Coach Rich Brooks has announced.
As perimeter game coordinator, Phillips will direct the outside running game and outside screen plays.
?Joker has done a great job with our wide receivers,? Brooks said. ?He is integrally involved with our blocking schemes on outside screens and running plays. He is well-qualified to handle this responsibility.?
Phillips has been associated with University of Kentucky football for 15 years. He played at Kentucky from 1981-84, held various coaching and administrative positions from 1988-96, and returned to his alma mater last year to join Brooks? staff.
Under Phillips? direction last season, wide receiver Keenan Burton was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team by the Knoxville News-Sentinel and wide receiver/kick returner Derek Abney was named second-team All-America and first-team All-SEC as an all-purpose player. In addition, Phillips organized the 2004 recruiting class that has been hailed as Kentucky?s best in recent years by media and others who evaluate recruiting success.
