HOT SPRINGS, Va. ? Kentucky?s quest for its first men?s golf national championship begins Tuesday at The Homestead Resort?s Cascades Golf Course in Hot Springs, Va. UK qualified for the 2004 NCAA Division I Men?s Golf Championships after winning the Central Region Championship, defeating 2003 national runner-up Oklahoma State by 11 strokes.

?Our confidence level is very high after winning the Central Region Championship,? coach Brian Craig said. ?I was really excited at Purdue. It seemed like the guys had a sharper focus with more energy and effort about what they were doing so hopefully we can carry that over to The Homestead.?

Kentucky?s lineup is headlined by PING All-Midwest Region Team selection, John Holmes. Holmes claimed the Central Region individual championship and was one of three Cats who finished in the top-10. Juniors Brandon Waldrop and Matt Wells placed tied for third and tied for eighth, respectively. UK will need another strong performance from Holmes, Waldrop and Wells, as well as junior Mark Blakefield and sophomore Tyler Wilson to have a chance to compete.

?Regardless of how we finish at the NCAAs, there is no question that this has been a successful season with at least one championship achieved,? Craig said. ?However, our goal is to compete for the national title and it would make it that much more successful if we could have a chance to win it all on the last day of the NCAAs.?
