LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky sophomore Elisabeth Jones tallied her first goal of the season, but Wisconsin?s two second-half goals silenced the Wildcat rally as the Badgers claimed a 3-1 victory in the final game of the Kentucky Invitational Sunday afternoon at the UK Soccer Complex. The Cats begin the 2004 season at 0-2, and UK?s losing streak in the Kentucky Invitational, dating back to 1997, extends to eight matches.

The Badgers got on the board in the 24th minute when Katy Lindenmuth?s cross from the right flank slipped off of the gloves of Kentucky goalkeeper Anne Ogundele and took a fortuitous bounce into the goal. Wisconsin took the 1-0 lead into the half and added to its cushion less than two minutes into the second half when Kara Kabellis booted in a loose ball from four yards out.

Kentucky?s Jones took possession of the ball in the 51st minute, drove through the left side of the penalty box and beat Badger goalkeeper Lynn Murray from six yards out to cut the Kentucky deficit to one goal. However, Wisconsin?s Marisa Brown responded 19 minutes later with a line drive past UK?s Liz Butler, who replaced Ogundele in goal in the 61st minute.

West Virginia posted a 7-0 defeat of Ohio in the afternoon?s first match. The Mountaineers tie with Wisconsin for the Kentucky Invitational title.

Kentucky?s 0-2 start is the first since 1997, when UK dropped a pair of Kentucky Invitational matches to Clemson and Michigan. The Cats meet up with 20th-ranked Michigan this Friday in Ann Arbor for UK?s first road match of the season.
