LEXINGTON, Ky. ? Freshman Callie Lanphier netted her third goal of the season and junior Liz Butler recorded her seventh career shutout, as Kentucky claimed a 1-0 victory over Missouri Friday afternoon at the UK Soccer Complex. The Cats earn their third-consecutive win to improve to 3-4 on the season, while Missouri drops to 2-4-1.
In the 23rd minute, sophomore Elisabeth Jones fed Callie Lanphier just outside the penalty box. Lanphier fired a booming line drive off the hands of goalkeeper Laura Buehrig and into the top right corner of the goal for the only score the Cats would need. Jones has assisted on each Lanphier goal this season and has assists in four straight matches. Jones has contributed a point in six of Kentucky?s seven matches in 2004.
Butler scored her first shutout since the Cats? 6-0 victory over Davidson on Aug. 29, 2003. The Overland Park, Kan., native recorded four saves and was aided by a stingy Wildcat backfield that allowed only four shots-on goal. Kentucky tallies its second shutout in a week after blanking Cincinnati on Sept. 10.
The Cats will take the weekend off before beginning conference play next weekend at LSU.
