Kentucky senior Jesse Witten turned a near defeat into a resounding victory Monday afternoon in the finals of the ITA Southeast Regional Championship in Memphis, Tenn. Witten rallied from a 4-6, 1-5 deficit to defeat Georgia?s 89th-ranked Matic Omerzel by a 4-6, 7-6, 6-1 count to claim the title in the 64-player field.
The three-time All-American from Naples, Fla., now owns two ITA Southeast Regional titles after winning the 2002 singles title. The ITA?s third-ranked men?s singles player, Witten earns an automatic berth in the ITA National Indoor Championships set to begin Nov. 4 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
