LEXINGTON ? The Kentucky men?s soccer team will learn its NCAA Tournament fate today at 4 p.m. when the NCAA announces the 48-team field. The selection show will be aired live on ESPNews.
The Wildcats must hope for an at-large bid for the second straight year after being upset in the Mid-American Conference tournament last week by Western Michigan. Kentucky entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed after winning their fourth conference crown in five years.
This season, coach Ian Collins and his team have run up an 11-5-3 record this year with three of the losses coming to top 20 opponents.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats posted quality wins over No. 17 UAB and an Ohio State team that is now ranked. Kentucky also forced ties with second-ranked Indiana and No. 19 Akron. This year is the eighth straight the Wildcats have posted double digit wins.
Kentucky has earned a bid to the tournament in four of the past five years. Last season, the Wildcats reached the second round before falling to eventual national champion Indiana in double overtime.
Tournament first-round games begin on Friday, Nov. 19 and are played at host sites that will also be announced on Monday. The top 16 seeds in the draw receive first-round byes and host second-round games on Tuesday, Nov. 23.
