The University of Kentucky softball team was named the Outreach Team of the Month by the UK Ohio Casualty Center for Academic & Tutorial Services (CATS).
The Wildcats donated 119 hours of their time to various community service during the month of November to earn the title.
?I?m so proud of the way our players handle themselves off the field and the way they volunteer their time to help others,? said head coach Eileen Schmidt. ?Obviously, it?s important to give back to the community and I?m proud that our team realizes that.?
The Wildcats participated in events ranging from Kentucky Special Olympics Bowling Event, working as mentors for various elementary schools, selling programs and donating the proceeds to charity. The team has also worked with numerous other programs in the Lexington area, including the Cats Cultivating Character program, Markey Cancer Foundation and Boys & Girls Club.
