Kentucky senior forward Chuck Hayes, who broke his nose during the first half of the Wildcats? 84-62 win at Tennessee Tuesday night, is listed as day-to-day following an evaluation by team doctors Wednesday. Doctors have cleared the Modesto, Calif.,-native to return to action, but his status for Saturday?s game at Arkansas won?t be determined until later in the week.
?Chuck is the heart and soul of our basketball team and as tough a player as I?ve ever been around,? Head Coach Tubby Smith said. ?He?s in a lot of pain right now, so we?ll have to wait and see how he feels after a couple days. As big as Chuck?s heart is, you know he?ll be on the court unless he?s in a tremendous amount of pain.?
The sixth-ranked Wildcats did not practice Wednesday. Hayes, the SEC?s second-leading rebounder with a 9.1 average, will be fitted with a protective mask when he does return to the court. He has started 93-consecutive games for Kentucky, 17 shy of the school record.
