LEXINGTON, Ky.? The University of Kentucky track and field squads part ways to embark on the first road trip of the season Feb. 4-5 at the Meyo and Husker Invitationals. Portions of the squad will compete at the 30th annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., while the rest of the team will be at the 15th annual Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind.

UK?s field event and women?s sprint squads will compete at the Husker Invitational at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track on the campus of the University of Nebraska. Competition is scheduled to begin with multiple field events at 1 p.m. Friday, with the sprint prelims to follow at 6 p.m. The men?s and women?s long jump and weight throw events will also be held Friday, beginning at 6 p.m., as will the 5,000-meter run, which will conclude the day?s competition. Saturday?s events begin with the conclusion of the men?s heptathlon at 10 a.m. Field events will follow the heptathlon.

Freshman Michael Mason, leads the way for UK as he ranks No. 7 in the country after reaching 7-2 1/4 last weekend in the high jump at the Kentucky Invitational. Mason broke his own freshman school record with the leap and sits atop all Southeastern Conference competitors by almost an inch. Mason will be competing against Nebraska junior Aaron Plas who claimed the No. 4 slot on the way to shattering his career best last weekend at the University of Northern Iowa Invite. His mark of 7-3 1/4 is slightly better than that of freshman teammate Dusty Jonas (No. 5), who has leaped 7-3.

Also performing well for the Cats is sophomore Andy Fryman who recorded a toss of 58-08 1/2 in the shot put last weekend at the Kentucky Invitational. Fryman ranks No. 15 in the nation in the men?s shot put.

Meanwhile, the UK men?s sprint squad and men?s and women?s distance teams will compete at the Meyo Invitational on Notre Dame?s campus. The meet will begin on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. with the women’s long jump. The first track event of the meet will be the women’s 5,000 meters, which will start at 7 p.m. Action continues on Saturday at 10 a.m. with sprint trials and slower sections of the remaining running events. Finals will begin at 2 p.m. with the Meyo Mile scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
