Defending NCAA champion Baylor grabbed the doubles point and the first four singles matches on their way to a 5-2 victory over No. 13 Kentucky Saturday at the Boone Tennis Complex.

The Bears’ doubles teams of Benedikt Dorsch/Matija Zgaga and Benjamin Becker/Jon Reckeway took their matches on courts 1 and 3, respectively. Kentucky’s Matt Emery and Alex Hume held a 5-4 lead on court two when play was suspended.

Dorsch was the first to knotch a singles victory as he led Jesse Witten one set to none when Witten defaulted due to three code violations. Becker took care of Emery in straight sets to give Baylor a 3-0 lead and Lars Poerschke’s 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 victory on court three over the Cats’ Tigran Martirosyan clinched the win for the Bears.

Kentucky’s Nate Emge put UK on the board with a dramatic three-set win over Zgaga. Following a 6-3, 6-3 Michal Kokta win over the Cats’ Jason Mallaiah, Alex Hume gave Kentucky its second point with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Greg Shearer.
