No. 15 Ohio State took a hotly-contested doubles point and three singles matches on its way to a 4-1 win over No. 13 Kentucky Friday at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago.
Ohio State?s Joey Atas and Drew Eberly claimed an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles over UK?s Nate Emge and Nolan Polley for the Buckeyes? first doubles win. Kentucky?s Jesse Witten and Tigran Martirosyan took Ohio State?s top-ranked tandem of Scott Green and Ross Wilson to the limit at No. 1 singles before succumbing in a tiebreaker, giving OSU an early 1-0 lead.
Witten evened the tally at one with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 performance over Ohio State?s 40th-ranked Devin Mullings for his second win of the tournament. Ohio State seized control of the match from that point forward, as Chris Klingemann, Wilson and Dennis Mertens closed out the match with wins at the three, four and five singles positions, respectively.
UK falls to 5-3 and will meet Boise State in its final match of the tournament Saturday evening. Kentucky blanked the Broncos, 4-0, at the National Indoors a year ago.
