The Kentucky women?s swimming squad crowned its first All-Americans in four seasons Thursday at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships at Purdue?s Boilermaker Aquatic Center.

The UK 400-medley relay team of senior Jessica Siegele, junior Laura Graham and freshmen Heather and Jenny Bradford took 16th with a time of 3:42.62 to earn honorable-mention All-America honors. They become Kentucky?s first women?s swimming All-Americans since Jaime Siegele, the older sister of Jessica, earned an honorable-mention All-America selection in the 50 freestyle at the 2001 NCAA Championships.

Elsewhere on day one, sophomore Taryn Ignacio fell just shy of adding to Kentucky?s tally, placing 17th in the one-meter diving event with a score of 263.40. Individuals earn points regardless of their final finish if they turn in top-16 showings in the preliminary rounds. Junior Jessica Thompson placed 29th with a score of 235.30.

The UK 200-freestyle relay team of Heather and Jenny Bradford, Siegele and junior Shantel Commander placed 19th with a time of 1:33.11. Jenny Bradford added a 40th-place showing in the 50 freestyle, while Heather Bradford placed 64th in the event. Kentucky sits in 29th place with two points after the first day of competition.

Kentucky will compete in five events ? the 200-medley relay, 100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and three-meter diving ? on day two of the NCAA Championships. The preliminary rounds begin Friday at 11 a.m. EST. A results link is available at ukathletics.com, via ncaasports.com.
