The Kentucky softball team will host Eastern Kentucky in a mid-week non-conference matchup on Wednesday, Apr. 6, at the UK Softball Complex. The single game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
The Wildcats were swept in a Southeastern Conference doubleheader with South Carolina last weekend and are now 15-29 on the year. EKU owns a 13-16 overall record after dropping a pair of games to Jacksonville State over the weekend.
?We are going to put the South Carolina series behind us and continue to build our good play from Tennessee,? head coach Eileen Schmidt said. ?Nothing went right for us on Sunday. We need to gain some consistency in not only the way we play the game but the way we prepare and approach the game.
Sophomore and Lexington native Brooke Marnitz leads the team with a .324 batting average and is tied with fellow sophomore Ashley Fertic with a team-best two triples. Senior Jessica Nance leads the team with 10 stolen bases in 15 attempts, while sophomore Amber Janneck is the Wildcats? top home run hitter with six on the year.
The Wildcats lead 10-6 in the all-time series with the Colonels, including a sweep of a doubleheader last season in Richmond.
?It is just a single game with Eastern so we will not be able to get a ton of playing time for some people who have not been seeing it, but it is a chance to get back on track before we head into Baton Rouge,? Schmidt said.
The Wildcats return to SEC play this weekend, Apr. 9-10, when they travel to Baton Rouge to take on Louisiana State in a three-game series.
