University of Kentucky seniors Daniel Cruz and Tim Patrick will represent the United States at the World University Games later this summer after swimming qualifying times at the USA Swimming World Championship Trials in Indianapolis.
Cruz and Patrick earned their bids on Wednesday after placing seventh in their respective events during the trials. Cruz, who recently placed third in the 200-yard butterfly at the NCAA Championships, took seventh in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:00.62 on Saturday. Patrick, who placed 14th in the 50-yard freestyle at the NCAA Championships, placed seventh in the 50-meter freestyle on Sunday with a time of 22.80.
Cruz, Patrick and their American teammates will head to Izmir, Turkey to compete in the World University Games from Aug. 11-21.
Former Cat Komisarz to Represent USA at World Championships
Former UK swimming great Rachel Komisarz, a gold medalist at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, will represent the United States once again at the world championships later this summer.
Komisarz took first in the women?s 100-meter butterfly at the USA Swimming World Championship Trials with a time of 58.56. The world meet is scheduled for July 24-31 in Montreal, Quebec.
Komisarz, a three-time SEC champion and letter winner for Coach Gary Conelly from 1996-99, currently swims for the Lakeside Swim Club in Louisville.
