The Kentucky men?s golf team continued to struggle in the second round of the NCAA Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club in Hunt Valley, Md. The team shot 12-over par (292) in Thursday action, bringing its two-day total to 583, which is currently 25 strokes behind first-place Georgia.

Senior Brandon Waldrop led the Wildcats in second-round action, shooting one-over par (71) to bring his two-day total to five-over par (145). John Holmes was two-over par (72) Thursday, leaving him two-over par for the tournament after an even round Wednesday.

Matt Kohn was four-over Thursday, while Matt Wells finished five-over par. Both golfers are 10-over par for the two rounds. Mark Blakefield struggled on the back nine Thursday, counting three bogeys and a double-bogey in the final six holes. Holmes was three-over par at the turn, but managed to three birdies in four holes to even his score before bogeying the last two holes for the 72 score.

The Cats stood in 25th place when their round was complete Thursday, though all teams with afternoon tee times had many holes left to play. The field will be cut to 15 teams after Friday?s round is complete. Those teams will continue to compete for the NCAA title on Saturday.

The Wildcats are looking to better their eighth-place finish in last year?s tournament. Kentucky is competing in its third-consecutive NCAA Championship and its third in four years under Coach Brian Craig.
