LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The USA Track and Field Championships and the USA Junior Track and Field Championships will take place simultaneously at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., on June 23-26. A total of five athletes with UK ties will compete at the championships, including three current athletes.

Representing UK on the track in the junior competition will be 800 meter runners Stephan Smith and Lavera Morris. Smith, a Tallahassee, Fla., native, qualified for the Junior Championships clocking a personal-best time of 1:50.65 at the Music City Distance Carnival on June 4 in Nashville, Tenn. Morris, running at the NCAA Mideast Regional in Bloomington, Ind., tallied a personal-best time of 2:09.27 to make the Junior Championships start list. Both the men?s and women?s junior 800 meters will take place on June 23 with the women?s race beginning at 6 p.m. EDT and the men?s competition starting at 6:15 p.m. EDT.

Competing in his home state for UK is discus thrower Alek Grietens. The Nipomo, Calif., native, threw 167-5 to make the Junior Championships. Grietens will compete on Saturday, June 25, at 4:45 p.m. EDT.

UK graduate Jeff Chakouian will compete in the Visa Shot Put finals on Sunday, June 26, at 5 p.m. EDT. Chakouian qualified for the Championships with his toss of 66-2 1/2, which he recorded at the SEC-Big Ten Challenge in April. The six-time All-American is coming off of a third place finish at the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships.

Wildcat alum, Thomas Morgan, will take to the track on Friday, June 24, at 11:15 p.m. EDT in the men?s 5,000 meters. Morgan qualified for the championships with a personal-best time of 13:42.98 at the Payton Jordan US Open. Morgan holds the Kentucky school record in the outdoor 5,000 meters.
