The University of Kentucky women?s soccer team will host Eastern Kentucky in a mid-week match on Wednesday, Aug. 31, for an intrastate showdown. The match is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
The Wildcats are currently 0-0-1 on the year after battling to a 1-1 tie with Michigan State in the season opener. Freshman Kate Hughes scored the lone goal for the Cats and junior goalkeeper Anne Ogundele, who played the entire 110 minutes, made a pair of saves. Senior Courtney McCrudden recorded the assist on the Hughes? goal.
The Wildcats outshot the Spartans 21-11, including an 8-1 margin in the first half.
This marks the inaugural season of women?s soccer at EKU. The Colonels had their first match cancelled after severe weather ended their contest with Chattanooga after six minutes of play making Wednesday?s match the season opener for Eastern.
?After a good start against Michigan State, we look forward to getting back out on the field to continue our progress,? said head coach Warren Lipka. ?It?s still very early in the season and our goal is to improve each time we get out on the field.?
