The University of Kentucky men?s golf team wrapped up play today with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Preview in Sunriver, Ore., after posting a team score of 871 (291-292-288). Freshman Andy Winings led the Wildcats and finished tied for sixth overall after firing a career-low 68 in the third and final round to finish at 211 (69-74-68) for the tournament.

Southeastern Conference foe and defending national champion Georgia took home the team title with a team score of 845 (284-284-277), while Georgia Tech finished second at 860 (294-284-282). Oklahoma State was third (862), followed by UNLV (867) and Duke (869) who rounded out the top five at fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Georgia’s Brian Harman and Oklahoma State’s Pablo Martin were named co-champions with identical scores of 205.

Winings recorded six birdies on the day en route to his four-under par 68. Freshman Dan Woltman had four birdies in the final round and tied for 18th overall after firing a two-under par 70 to finish at 216 (73-73-70). Brad Doster fired a three-day score of 224 (77-73-74) to tie for 43rd, while junior Tyler Wilson ended at 226 (75-72-79). Senior Matt Kohn posted a score of 228 (74-78-76) to wrap up the UK scoring.

?I thought this was a pretty good performance and a great field,? said head coach Brian Craig. ?I was particularly proud of Andy Winings and Dan Woltman who carried the load. If we can get some of these older guys going, I think we have a chance to be a pretty good team this year. This was a very admirable performance, but obviously we have a little way to go to catch the best teams out there.?

The Wildcats return to action Oct. 10-11 when they co-host the Gary Koch Intercollegiate in Tampa, Fla., along with the University of Florida.
