The last few tickets to Kentucky?s Big Blue Madness were distributed Monday morning, meaning that the Wildcats? first-ever Madness at Rupp Arena will be a sellout. Approximately 23,000 tickets were distributed in just over 48 hours, including 20,000 in the first 35 minutes of availability this past Saturday morning.
Madness, the official start of UK?s basketball practice, will be held at Rupp Arena this year for the first time. And, unlike past years when the Wildcats took the court at midnight, Madness now begins at 9 p.m., thanks to a new NCAA regulation. Scheduled for Friday, Oct. 14, Madness tips off a year-long celebration marking 30 years of Kentucky basketball at the Wildcats? home court in downtown Lexington.
Memorial Coliseum has been the site of Big Blue Madness since its inception in 1982. However, due to the practice facility renovations being done at the 55-year-old building, spectator seating will be limited to 5,600, down from the normal capacity of 8,700. This reduction led UK to move the event to 23,000-seat Rupp Arena.
Madness on TV: UK fans without tickets to Big Blue Madness have a variety of TV options for watching Kentucky?s first basketball practice. The Big Blue Sports Network will televise the festivities live, from 9-11 p.m. (EDT), on WKYT-TV in Lexington and throughout Kentucky on FSN. Other Big Blue Sports Network affiliates will carry Madness on a tape-delayed basis.
Additionally, ESPNU will televise live from Rupp Arena from 10-11 p.m. (EDT), as part of six hours of Midnight Madness coverage. Other schools to be highlighted by ESPNU include Memphis, Kansas, Michigan State and Oregon.
